There is a itinerary you can try, when you come as a tourist in Uganda. It starts from Entebbe and goes on to the nearby archipelago of the Ssese Islands. You shall take a boat or a ferry to get there, the journey takes 3 and a half hours on daily connections. This is an original way to enjoy a local safari, different from any other in Uganda, and discover new places. Going from the large modern city to the small wild islands is the top adventure to experience. You can also choose to stay and make a basis of one of these two locations, both Entebbe and the islands. Here is some suggestion about the best places where to stop and stay.
A Camp at Entebbe
Entebbe – much more than Kampala – is the “queen of Lake Victoria”. This city, which used to be the colonial capital of Uganda, has barely given up its role and still looks like a capital. It is not a rich city, there are no economic sources over there, but it is proud to be the place where the President of Uganda still lives! You can admire the President’s House, the National Wildlife Education Center, the local Nkumba University buildings, the early-twentieth-century Botanic Garden. At Entebbe you can enjoy the lake, the many lake safari to the nearby wild shores. And the trips to the Ssese Islands.
If you like to enjoy the city life, but still looking for wild perfumes of Africa, stay at Hummingbird Camp. It is set in a central street of Entebbe, surrounded by a large park. Very close to the Botanic Garden and to the great Victoria Shopping Mall, it offers the guests: private parking, free wi-fi, large rooms with B&B service and even a cycling path! The camp is not too far from the airport and the lake is at a very short distance too.
