It’s not one of Zanzibar‘s main attractions, but without a doubt the Hindu temple is a stopover to understand the multicultural texture of the island.
If you look up through the streets of stone town you will often notice a colorful cone-shaped upside-down ice cream form that rises between the roofs of the city.

East Africa has always been a trade center with India. Due of this Hinduism in Tanzania in present from the 1st millennium AD. Evidence of small Hindu settlements and temple have been found in Zanzibar and parts of Swahili coast, Zimbabwe and Madagascar.

There were about 50,000 Hindus in Tanzania in 2010.

A small door will give you the access to this temple. The entrance is free, but we advice to respect traditions and not to enter if you’re not properly dressed.

Armony and peace seems to be the key words of this place. Is very tiny compared to the biggest brothers in Asia, but we don’t have to forget we’re in Zanzibar, thousands mile away from its own birthplace.
