A Ugandan honeymoon … why not? Uganda has no sea, but most part of its national territory consists in the beautiful and large Lake Victoria. A honeymoon trip over there, so, has a particular charm. And looks a bit like one of those tropical holidays on the ocean’s shore, anyway. You will spend your first days as husband and wife in the very heart of Africa, and exploring some of the most romantic places ever. Here we suggest some useful information for your Ugandan stay, plus five ideas for making your honeymoon unique!
Ugandan honeymoon, when to go
Uganda is mainly a mountain state and a place of rivers and lakes. So you better avoid the rain season, in order to avoid muddy roads, heavy wet days and other troubles connected to this time of the year. Plan your honeymoon to Uganda in a period included between December and February or between June and mid August. These dry seasons will allow you to go on safari trips, climbings, hiking. And to enjoy nice cool temperatures and no humidity.
Pack your bag
Besides the inevitable cameras, mobile phones, binoculars and the usual sunglasses, hats, repellents and sunscreen if you go to Uganda you must have:
- water proof jackets
- boots
- long trousers or skirts
- many-pocket vest or jacket
- some wool clothes for the cold mountain nights
Five ideas for your Ugandan honeymoon
Lake Victoria – this is the most beautiful and romantic place in Uganda. Lake Victoria will offer many lovely spots where you and your partner can enjoy intimate moments of your own. Try especially Bugala Island and its tiny coves, such as Pineapple Bay. There you will also find nice tourist lodges.
Queen Elizabeth National Park – a wildlife park and a very African environment for you, this one. But it will also offer interesting things to do for newly wed couples. Try, for example, the hot-air balloon safari, traditional safari on jeep car, or just a nice walk around the bush. You can stay in the typical wood and straw huts of local lodges.
Look for mountain gorillas – a safari in Uganda will take you to discover the rare and shy mountain gorillas. These big, dark animals love to hide in wild rain forests. Going to look for them will be a great thing to do with your partner and other guests.
Sources of the Nile – this place was the dream of many explorers, in past centuries. Now it is a stunning real beauty, and tourists can enjoy it while staying in the town of Jinja. The many romantic resorts will welcome you and help you to have a great time. Plenty of activities you can do on the sources of river Nile! Jinja is just 80 km away from the capital city Kampala, so you can also enjoy a guided tour over there.
Entebbe – the twin city to Kampala, this one is much more touristic and offers monuments and comforts. Couples who do not want too much African holidays will love this city, open to western habits such as shopping, elegant restaurants, theatres, museums.
