Kampala is the capital of Uganda, in part overlooking Lake Victoria and with a very modern aspect. History only occupies a small space in the old town area, while the rest of the city – and tourist – life revolves around the lake’s beaches and port. Tourism of safari has brought a brand new economy to a city which is, now, the headquarter of tour operators in Uganda. In the Kampala area you can admire: the Catholic Cathedral of Rugaba, the Anglican Cathedral of St. Paul, the great Ghadafi Mosque or “National Mosque” . Also visit the Baha’i House – a special temple open to all spiritual people, no matter the religion.
Do not miss in Kampala: the nineteenth-century Mengo Palace, which used to be a royal palace and then a prison too; the modern Palace of Parliament; Uganda National Museum . And of course the Monument to Independence and the Monument to the Martyrs of Namugongo. Young people will enjoy their stay at the local beaches: Ggaba Beach, Mulungu, Busabala Love Beach, which are so special at sunset, and the lively Lutembe. From any of this, tourists shall enjoy the unique views over Lake Victoria.
