Zanzibar: Spice Tour excursion

During this spice tour we will have a real experience to prove why Zanzibar is referred to as the “Spice island”, going thorough introduction to the lush botanic heritage of the region. We discovered many rare spice and their uses apart from serving as food flavor and marvel at curative possibilities that could be found in some of spices. Indeed the swahili people, without the discover of modern science, lived long and healthy life depending on the spices.

We left Stone Town in direction to small farms in the rural area that grow cloves, vanilla, nutmeg, cardamon, and other more spices, medicinal and ornamental plants, and tropical fruits.

Spices and herbs were originally introduced to Zanzibar by Portuguese traders in the 16th century, brought from their colonies in South America and India

This tour is a walking tour in a spice farm. While there, you can see how the spices, herbs and fruits grow and are cultivated, and the tour guide will describe how the crops can be used.

You will smell and taste spices, herbs and tropical fruits such as clove, lemongrass, nutmeg, cinnamon, turmeric, vanilla, coconuts, papaya, chili, black pepper, jackfruit, cardamom, cassava and oranges. After the tour will be available to enjoy a traditional swahili lunch at the farm where you will really taste the different ways of using spices. You will be also able to buy some fresh spices.
